Weatherproof Pipe Insulation Jackets For External Industrial Pipework

The challenge

External pipework installations demand more from insulation than anything inside a building. In this project the main challenges were:

Full outdoor exposure with no shelter from weather or UV radiation

A varied set of pipe sizes and configurations across the installation
Risk of condensation on cold pipe surfaces as well as heat loss from warm sections

The need for insulation that would last in an outdoor environment without constant replacement

Every jacket was made to the specific pipe dimensions on this site. This is not something that can be achieved with standard thermal insulation jackets. Getting the fit right on external pipework is particularly important because any gaps or loose edges become entry points for moisture, which degrades the insulation from the inside and significantly reduces its effective life.

The multi-section approach was central to the design. Handling a single large cover on an industrial vessel is impractical, and it creates problems when only part of the vessel needs to be accessed. By designing the cover as a series of interlocking sections, each panel could be removed independently, giving the maintenance team targeted access without disturbing the rest of the installation
